Everyday Empowered Women Initiatives™Navigating modern life. Living deliberately.
Welcome to Everyday Empowered Women Initiatives™ Navigating modern life. Living deliberately.
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the overused word “empowerment”.
According to the Cambridge Dictionary online, empowerment is “the process of gaining the freedom, authority, and confidence to take control of your own life, make decisions, and achieve your goals …building capacity, self-determination, and the ability to influence positive change in personal, social, or professional settings.”
Before I had even written the first word of this introductory newsletter, my initiative was swiftly taken over completely by a process of ‘doing-it-for-you-so-you-do-not-need-to-think-and-expend-energy’. I was confounded, though hugely impressed by the speed at which technology took control of what I wanted to do, say, share.
These newsletters are about supporting everyday women as we navigate our way through life, but with our hand fully on the helm – not by being controlled by something faster, more impersonal, and I’m sure programmed to write in a way that will make a woman do, think, say, buy what it wants women to think, say, do, buy.
I could have published any of the suggested posts, and you would already be reading it by now. Instead, I decided to take back my power and remind myself - and you - that empowerment is about all the things the Cambridge dictionary said it is: authority, confidence, taking control of your own life, building capacity, self-determination, and influencing positive change in a variety of settings.
You don’t need me or technology to empower you! You are already empowered, you might just have temporarily forgotten.
These newsletters will be about sharing thoughtful insights, practical tools, and reflections that will be inspired by my books and courses. We will explore stress, mindset, relationships, money, identity, and personal growth in an effort to support you in reframing challenges, reclaiming your agency, and living more deliberately.
For this introductory newsletter, I want to leave you with some words from a favorite film of mine Under the Tuscan Sun: “there is a section of the Alps .… It is an impossibly steep, very high part of the mountains. … They built these tracks even before there was a train in existence that could make the trip. They built it because they knew some day [sic], the train would come.”
We are strong, capable, empowered women. Let’s build our own train tracks.
Until next time, bye for now
